I'm a licensed massage therapist, Certified Kripalu Bodyworker and Certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor providing healing and therapeutic massage for over 25 years, located in Greenfield Massachusetts, offering Swedish, Deep Tissue and other modalities. Sessions are customized to meet your personal needs of the moment.
With over 25 years of experience in a number of modalities, my goal is to work with you to meet your body's needs. Beginning with Swedish Massage as a base modality, I incorporate an intuitive approach to the needs of your body in the moment. We may apply some deep tissue work or trigger point therapy to address some of the more challenging areas of tension. I like to apply a subtle, gentle technique of balancing energy in the body as well to bring the gross body into integration with its energy structure. Using the breath as the means to consciously conduct energy, we can work together to guide awareness to the areas that most need loving attention.
Swedish Massage- The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles. This is also combined with movement of the joints. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing. And it may even help after an injury.
Four common strokes of Swedish massage are:
Deep Tissue Massage- Deep tissue massage is best for giving attention to certain painful, stiffness in your body. The massage therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Though less rhythmic than other types of massage, deep tissue massage may be therapeutic -- relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, such as back sprain.
Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues.
Here are the key differences between deep tissue massage and Swedish massage:
Trigger Point Therapy-
Trigger Point of Therapy consists of pushing, squeezing, or compressing over an area that feels tight or painful. Pressing directly into the muscle tissue through the skin is known as ischemic compression and can sometimes relieve muscle tension and discomfort.
A therapist will focus on the area where pain is felt using ischemic compression. This involves maintaining comfortable pressure from three or more seconds at varying degrees and angles. This form of therapy can also be used on oneself by manually pressing into the area of discomfort. This can also be done with the aid of a tennis ball or a similar object.
Energy Balancing/Polarity Therapy-
The theoretical basis of energy balancing techniques is that all life, including our bodies, radiates invisible energy fields. There are three major systems of the human vibrational matrix.
1.) Human Energy Field (Biofield or Aura or Subtle Body) – Multi-layered energy envelope around the body.
2.) Chakra System – Seven invisible spinning vortices of energy located vertically from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. System referred to in yoga.
3.) Meridian System – 14 major energy pathways containing release points. This system is used in Chinese Acupuncture. These points are tapped by fingers in an Energy Balancing Session.
The premise is that it is the vital life force energy that fuels one’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well- being. When a person’s energy flows freely, body, mind and spirit are in balance and able to “right” themselves when life becomes difficult.
However, stress, worry, anxiousness and challenging life events are believed to weaken or block energy creating an imbalance in the system that can lead to a variety of mental, emotional and physical distresses.
Through the use of Energy Balancing Techniques (EBT), the Energy Balancing practitioner intends to serve as a conduit to Universal Life Force Energy (Source) and can use a variety of techniques which may include light hands-on touch, sound and vibration with the client designed to reestablish the free flow of the natural life force energy within the body, mind and spirit.
While it’s not possible to provide any guarantees, many clients report experiencing a release on many levels and a renewed sense of well-being, peace and mental clarity.
Polarity works with life energy in all of its forms, using a comprehensive system of bodywork, exercise, nutritional guidance, and verbal counseling to bring body, mind, emotions, and spirit into a state of balance, harmony and vibrant health.
Polarity Therapy was developed by Dr. Randolph Stone (1890-1981), an osteopath, chiropractor, and naturopath who sought to integrate Eastern and Western approaches to healing modalities such as reflexology, acupressure, craniosacral balancing, yoga, and Ayurveda.
But Polarity is more than just a collection of techniques – at its heart is a set of principles about the balance and flow of life energy which Dr. Stone believed to be the underlying essence of all healing arts. This is attested to by the growing number of health care professionals, such as nurses, chiropractors, physical therapists, creative arts therapists, and massage practitioners, who are successfully incorporating Polarity Therapy into their work.
When we are truly well, our bodies vibrate vitality and our thoughts and emotions are in alignment with our soul’s truth. The polarity model sees the body’s imbalances as the final “printout” of information entered long ago. Polarity serves as the key to unlock the door to the source, thereby allowing for genuinely new choices.
Utilizing hands-on contacts, toning, breathing and gentle counseling techniques, this work embodies a full holistic health care system, and can be used to empower other modalities as well.
Chair Massage for Events
Chair massage is a 15-20 minute massage focused on the back, shoulders, neck, arms, and head. It is designed to relax the muscles and improve flexibility and movement. This relaxing and recharging mobile massage session will have you ergonomically seated in a specialized massage chair, with your face resting in a cradle. Your face is looking down towards the ground, while your arms are supported by a special shelf. Your back and neck are fully relaxed while the chair massage practitioner provides relief from muscular tension.
There is no need to change or shower after. Simply sit down and relax. Then get up and continue on with your day. By taking just 15 minutes, a chair massage session can help alleviate your stress and increase your sense of well-being.
The unique thing about the chair massage is how compact and portable it is. Massage practitioners can perform a chair massage treatment almost anywhere. You’ll see massage chairs on-site at busy places such as airports, malls, festivals, company retreats, trade shows, golf tournaments, conferences, and especially emerging in workplaces. Because the cost of a 15 minute chair massage is a fraction of the cost of full body massage and still comes with a whole host of amazing health benefits, many companies are adopting this service as a free perk for staff.
